More than 10 years of experience in kitchens, from restaurants to hotels, from washing dishes to managing small teams.
But... between you and me... this experience is not important for my actual objective.
Since I was a kid my father rescued technology from the trash. He put a lot of effort in it to made it work. We didn't have too much money so the only way to have a TV was waiting until we found one in the garbage and we can fix it.
That taught me two things:
1- A lot of people throw good things instead of learn something to fix it;
2- Nothing is too complicated if you are motivated to learn!
After years we got computers at home, I was fascinated with those machines. Because it was the first time that I played video games? Yes, I was a kid, but also because you could do much more.
I was learning how to make 3D models, textures, even some basic games, I was so fascinated with the technology...
In my free time I discovered that I like to learn new things. So I learned to code, I learned to draw, I learned to play and compose music, I learned about science, mathematics etc. and when the COVID arrived... that all changed.
Now I have more free time, I don't even have a job... Kitchens were closed in Mallorca.
"so... what do I do now?" was the question that I had in my mind all the time. I had a lot of time to think about what I wanted and liked to do. For a while I didn't even search for a new job, I just wanted to know what I want. That was the first time that I thought about changing my career.
I took my savings and I studied game design and programming, I was learning from morning to night. But life hits at some time, I had to find a job again, my savings only allowed me 3 months off.
My only experience was in the kitchen, so my only option to get jobs was in the kitchen. Even if I didn't like it any more, but with the COVID everything was closed so I asked myself again "so... what do I do now?"
One day, a normal and boring day, I found one job offer in The Netherlands, a country that I didn't know anything about, I applied and I got the job.
"It's in the kitchen but this time it's different, another country, I think I like the kitchen but not the kitchen in Spain... r- right?"
Time to learn something new, new culture, new language... The first years in the country were so nice but something was not clicking and I didn't know what.
After another lockdown in The Netherlands I started working for The Brownie Box, a company that makes, well ... brownies ... in a box, it's kinda straight forward. I worked in the bakery of course... but some days I worked in another section, and it was fun, I liked it. "Yes, the problem was the kitchen!" I thought.
During that time I felt more motivated to do what I enjoyed most: create different programs and code libraries, make new 3D models... even hosting my own server with my own programs.
After 2 years there I planned to search a new job and leave the company. I had the dream to search for a different job, something that I would like to do and not something that I have to do.
My plan didn't work out exactly. I had no job, and I felt the same as during the COVID in Spain. So I applied to all the kitchen jobs that I saw, "I need a job, I don't want to leave the country."
So here I am now... writing this, hoping that this time is different, this time will not be a dream and I don't have to wake up.
